mom’s retirement video This is Phyl’s retirement dinner video by Dana, my choice of music. In the six years i was at PHMS, no-one’d had a retirement event. They wouldn’t let us do it in her library. We had to ask for people to pay for their dinners in a restaurant. I was worried no-one would come. But Karen, Dana, and Phyl’s popularity came through for me, and 85 staff came.
phyl’s friends Phyllis was quite special. She had a bazillion friends. Throughout our marriage, I can’t enumerate the times friends said, “Phyllis will give you the shirt off her back,” a silly colloquialism that made me very proud. We’ve used only pix of Phyl with her friends. There are lots of pix of just her friends and lots of friends of whom we do not have pix. None are of her family, except her cousin Beverly who was my friend before I met Phyllis. Beverly introduced us. Aside from the number of friends she always had, two other things are mostremarkable. 1–As I’ve written, very few people considered themselves acquaintances. She could and would talk intimately with everyone. She was so unpretentious and selfless, people immediately took to her, and she had a special charisma, really a superpower, that people, even those she’d just met, inevitably considered her a close friend.
2—Incredibly, she kept in touch with everyone. She was still friends with 99% of those in the pictures, whether east or westcoast, recent or lifelong.
